London, March 23. A Petrograd dispatch to Reuter’s says that political prisoners released from the Nerchinsk prison in Siberia have arrived In Chita, where they were given a big reception and welcomed by military bands. Among the prisoners was Maria Spiridonova, who was carried through the streets on the shoulders of the crowd.
Maria Spiridonova, the daughter of a Russian general, shot and killed Chief of Police Luzhenoffsky of Tambov in 1906. She was sentenced to death but the sentence was commuted to 20 years in prison.
The German imperial clothing committee has issued a warning that styles in women's clothes cannot be allowed to change every six months, according to an Amsterdam dispatch to the Exchange Telegraph Co. The committee says that women may wear winter dresses throughout the coming summer and winter without disgrace and that drastic measures will be taken against a change in fashion and the consequent waste in materials.
