Who is now in actual control of the palace - us of the Bolsheviks?
And suddenly a hubbub erupted somewhere, and it immediately grew louder and drew closer. And amongst its sounds, diverse yet fused into a single wave, you could hear something else, something singular and unlike those previous noises – something final. It suddenly became apparent that the endgame was upon us...
The door swang open... A cadet rushed in. He saluted us and asked, anxious but determined: "What are the orders? Remain steadfast to the last? We will if that is the order of the Provisional Government." "No! It's pointless! Obviously! We don't want bloodshed! We should surrender" - we all started shouting in unison.
A little man rushed into the room, pushed by the crowd, who flooded in right after him and immediately took up the whole room.
We dispersed early, at 2 o’clock in the morning. All the members of the Provisional Government save Kerensky retired to their apartments; Kerensky went to the main headquarters.
