Чего следует ожидать от немецких армий, если они дойдут до Петрограда совершенно ясно из того, что они делали в Бельгии и Польше. Во-первых, немцы, конечно, не займут Петрограда, не обеспечив себе продовольствия из внутренних губерний России. А ради этого они, идя на Петроград соединенными усилиями армии и громадного флота, очевидно, постараются, в то же время продвинуться по линии Псков - Бологое - Рыбинск, чтобы проложить себе путь к верхней Волге и центральным русским губерниям. Одновременно с этим они неизбежно постараются связать свои завоевания на севере с южно-русскими железными дорогами. Затем, следуя той же политике, какой они следовали в Бельгии, немцы будут выбирать из рабочего населения наиболее крепких и здоровых и отсылать их в рабство в те области, которые они решат оставить за собой - Лифляндию, Курляндию, Литву - или в Пруссию.

Там их заставят работать на войну против своих же русских братьев. Десятки тысяч человек, старых и молодых, юношей и девушек были увезены таким образом из Бельгии в подлинное рабство в Германии, точь-в точь, как делали римляне, покоряя галлов. Ничто не помешает немцам поступить также с русскими; причем не мешает также помнить, что немцы всегда делали различие между областями, которые они надеялись удержать за собой, и теми, из которых они могли быть вынуждены отступить. С этими последними они обращались просто зверски.
