New post

Project 1917 is a series of events that took place a hundred years ago as described by those involved. It is composed only of diaries, letters, memoirs, newspapers and other documents

I own that I feel very anxious for the safety of the Emperor… If he once gets inside the walls of the prison of St. Peter and St. Paul, I doubt he will ever come out alive.

Walked in the garden with May, fine and bright but cold.

Michael came to see me and we discussed the idea of poor Nicky coming to England.

I am deeply distressed at the events of the last week.  My thoughts are always with you, and I shall always remain your faithful and devoted friend, just as I have always been in the past, as you know.

I fear Alicky is the cause of it all and Nicky has been weak.

Heard from Buchanan that the Duma has forced Nicky to sign his abdication and Misha had been appointed Regent and after he has been 23 years Emperor. I am in despair.

Decorated seventy-five officers, received ten Indian officers, inspected six motor-ambulances, walked in the gardens of Buckingham palace for some exercise, and relaxed in the evening arranging his stamp collection.

Bad news from Russia, practically a Revolution has broken out in Petrograd and some of the Guards Regiments have mutinied and killed their officers. This rising is against the Government not against the war.

Had a talk with Mother about Russian and Nicky. She is very much upset about it all.
