The birthday of my dear Alix. May God grant her health and a calm spirit. Before Mass all of the servants offered their congratulations. We had breakfast upstairs as usual. During the day Alix went out with us into the garden. We chopped down and sawed up trees in the park. At 7:30 I went for a ride with the girls on the bicycles. The weather was fine. During the evening I began to read aloud Le comte de Monte Christo.
