On the day of Faith, Hope, and Charity, several people from the observation team came and said goodbye, and told me that I should be ready for transfer at 11 AM. “What transfer?” I asked, and they responded: “Transfer to the hospital, and then, to freedom… Your sitting is over”.

They came and brought me from the room not at 11, but at 2 PM to the waiting room, where the Police commissar, who had been sent by the Minister of Internal Affairs to transfer me under the supervision of Petrograd’s police chief, was waiting. Once I’d received the letters and money kept for me in the office, I went downstairs with the commissar, who had a cigar in his mouth the whole time. Behind the bastion, I was asked to sit in a closed car, in which the observation team had laid out all my things.
