Настойчивее всех тот мужичок, что пришёл с записочкой от Ленина. Каждое утро чуть рассветает, уже он у двери.

— Как насчёт уплаты-то за лошадь? Уж больно хороша была. Кабы не такая крепкая да выносливая, не стал бы столько за неё выплаты добиваться. А уж теперь раз у меня записочка от вашего главного большевика есть, отстать не хочу. Добьюсь, хотя ещё полгода помаюсь.

И добился.

Чиновники ключей не отдавали. Говорят: не знаем где. Ищите сами. Пришлось кое-кого арестовать.

Сегодня ключи нашлись. Первой выдачей из кассы Народного комиссариата государственного призрения была выплата за лошадь, которую царское правительство отняло обманом и силой у крестьянина и за которую настойчивый мужичок получил вознаграждение полностью по записочке В.И. Ленина.

Verkhovski came to see the Ambassador, and I interpreted. Incidentally, he said that Kerenski had not wanted to let the Cossacks suppress the rising “ on their own,” as he knew that would be “ the end of the Revolution.” I suggested that “ perhaps it would have saved Russia.” See more
